Why Learn Dutch?
Dutch is spoken by approximately 24 million native speakers across the Netherlands, Belgium (where it is called Flemish), Suriname, Aruba, and the Caribbean Netherlands. The Netherlands consistently ranks among the top 20 largest economies in the world and is a major hub for international trade, logistics, technology, and agriculture. Amsterdam is home to the European headquarters of many global companies, making Dutch a practical asset for career development in Europe.
For English speakers, Dutch is often considered the closest major language to English — sharing significant vocabulary, similar sentence structures, and a Germanic grammatical foundation. Many Dutch speakers also speak excellent English, but making the effort to learn Dutch opens doors to deeper cultural connections, local job markets, and life in the Netherlands or Belgium. Dutch has two grammatical genders that affect article choice (de for common gender nouns, het for neuter nouns). MindCards A1 vocabulary presents each Dutch noun with its correct article so you build accurate gender habits from the start.
